I’ve been meaning to make a list of the LGBT books I’ve read but I procrastinated. Rebecca ( thebooker) made this post and I was originally going to just add on but I decided to make my own list to have as a record of sorts. I have a similar list on my main blog for queer movies. So here goes my list, inspired by Rebecca’s post, and I shall add to it as time goes on.

This as well as the sequel. It’s about a guy meeting a famous football player and they sort of fall in love and its about the drama involving the media. I love these books because the characters are so realistic and it has some awesome side characters. Also it takes place in Australia! Don’t worry if you’re not a fan of football, I have zero knowledge of the sport and I highly enjoyed the story.

A beautiful and real story of two young girls falling in love. This is one of my favorite books as well. It was banned in many libraries and even publicly burned, as it says on the goodreads page, which I find completely crazy. Published in the 80’s, this is a classic queer book.

A story of a guy who is having some issues in life and becomes close to his guy teacher which ends up blosoming into a roller coster love ride. I cannot deny I am a sucker for forbidden romance but please don’t jump to any conclusion, this romance isn’t some perverted teacher/student romance. Trust me, just read the book.

Same writer, different but just as great story. A young guy creates a blog about the homophobia at his school and it causes quite the commotion and a revolution of sorts.

This one is one of the newer ones, it came out this may. A young Armenian boy falls for the skater boy but didn’t expect for the feelings to be reciprocated. This is a funny and cute/romance/ feel good family/self discovery book and I suggest you check it out!

  • Keeping You A Secret by Julie Anne Peters Goodreads

Another cute little lesbian story of self-discovery and romance. It was funny and had some heartwarming moments as well.

This is about a girl with a trans sibling. In the book you see Liam preparing to come out and finally be Luna. Its the only trans book I’ve read but I remember liking it. I just wished it was in the perspective of Luna instead of the sister.

  •  The Vast Fields of Ordinary by Nick Burd Goodreads

A story of a guy who’s life isn’t that great and then BAM he meets a guy and crazy things happen. I really did like this book though it ended in a sadder/realistic way. I adored the main characters friend, she was great.

Two young guys enter a friendship that evolves into a deep realistic relationship and you found out one of them has a pretty dark past that stirs up some problems. There’s a sequel but I didn’t like it as much as I liked this one but it was still good.

Let me be straight (lol punny) out and say this is pretty much classified as erotica but I didn’t know it at the time. Anyway a guy gets kicked out once he comes out to his dad and he find himself falling in love with his brother’s best friend. If you want me to be blunt I just say this was a hot cowboy romance that also made me gasp in shock and get a little teary eyed. Someone said in a review of it “sex that’s as sweet as it is scorching.”

  • The Rainbow Trilogy by Alex Sanchez Goodreads

A coming of age story about 3 guys. One who is coming to terms that he’s gay, one who knows he is just doesn’t want anyone else to and one who is so out and the definition of flaming homosexual. These were some of the first queer books I read, I own all three. I love how you saw in each of their perspectives, the pov shifting in each chapter. You should check these out.

  • Boyfriends with Girlfriends by Alex Sanchez Goodreads

This book is a little complicated bit it deals with bisexuality as well as homosexuality which is a bit rare. we need more bi characters in the world, queer characters in general. This was a good book about self discovery and overcoming differences. Its by Alex Sanchez so I knew it’d be good.

Ah, religion. This is what this book touches on, specifically the christian views on homosexuality. A young christian guy finds his world flipped upside down when he meets a guy who claims to be both gay and christian. He realizes some deeply repressed things about himself and reexamines his whole life. I was never a fan of religion but I thought this book was pretty good, talking about a still relevant topic.

A group of queer kids want to find some sort of haven in their school without having to come out so they create a club so boring that no one in their right mind would join - Geography Club. There’s drama and love and it was even made into a movie! I can’t remember how accurate the movie was but I remember liking it as well. This is a series and I think I may reread this book to read the rest.

  • I Can See For Miles by Lisa Worrall Goodreads

A short but very original ebook. After becoming blind, Josh’s friends make him go to retreat-like camp for the blind where he falls for Charlie. There’s a bit of a hesitation on Charlie’s part  but he has to try and give a chance at love.  Them both being pretty much blind was very fascinating and there was some beautifully sensual scenes and scene descriptions. Go check it out!

  • How Beautiful the Ordinary edited by Michael Cart Goodreads

This is really good book of short stories by a bunch of different authors about a wide variety of lgbt topics. There’s stories about trans characters, stories of queer love and stories of acceptance. Its very interesting all the different styles, there’s some stories told in comics, some told in unusual structures and just different writing styles.

  • Openly Straight by Bill Konigsberg Goodreads

Rafe is sick of everyone focusing on the fact that he’s gay, theres more to him than his sexuality! So when he transfers to an all boys school he decides to keep his sexuality a secret. But a few things happen and he finds himself in love with his friend who is straight.. for the most part. I thought the main character was a little ungrateful but even then the book was very funny. Also very real; the dialogue, the actions and repercussions.

You’ll just have to read the goodreads synopsis for this one. I thought it was a very cute book, not too deep or anything, sort of fluffy but cute and good nonetheless

Quite refreshing is Witch Eyes, a book about a guy witch who falls for the enemy witch family’s son. Theres dark magic consuming the town and Braden must master his gift to save loved ones. I read this so long ago, too long ago that I don’t remember a lot about it but I need to read the read of the series so might need to reread.

A world with superheroes, capes and all. Thom joins a organization of heroes, the League, but still can’t tell his dad he’s gay when he is barely coming to terms with it himself. Thom and the League have to deal with a deadly mystery. This is an example of a story where everything doesn’t revolve around the characters sexuality but I do wish there were a bit more gayness in there honestly.

  • Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green & David Levithan Goodreads

I’m sure you all know what this is about. A guy named Will Grayson meets a guy with the same name and their worlds collide. One of them is straight and I wasn’t particularly fond of him. There was love, friendship and fabulous musical. Go check it out.

This is another one you have to read the synopsis yourself but even that doesn’t tell you everything. I was not fond of the love interest in this book but there was another guy later in the book and I loved him. Luckily theres a book about him in this series.

Notable mentions:

Got any queer book recommendations? send me them!

Wow, this list is awesome! I was only familiar with a few of them. I’ll be sure to check them out. Anyone who wanted more recs, particularly if you liked my little post, should too.
